Remove local admin rights safely with Application Elevation

A task guide: the pages to use, in order.

Eight steps: switch Application Elevation on from the Dashboard, choose Audit in Settings, confirm computers are enrolled, review 30 days of history in Audit Review, import vendor templates, check the rules, switch to Enforce in Settings, then handle requests in Pending Requests.

Steps

  1. Switch Application Elevation on. Enable it for the company; nothing is enforced yet
  2. Choose Audit mode. Records what would be blocked, blocks nothing
  3. Check computers are enrolled. Look for 'Not installed' and 'never' synced
  4. Review what needed admin rights. Allow trusted publishers from 30 days of history
  5. Import vendor templates. Auto-approve installers for software you use
  6. Check your rules. Revoke anything too broad
  7. Switch to Enforce. Select the Enforce card
  8. Approve what is left. Turn repeat approvals into rules
